Now boasting a network of 87 stores across the state, Ferguson Plarre is celebrating the milestone with one of the largest retail food giveaways in Victorian history.
War, economic depression, recessions and a global pandemic - over the past 120 years, Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses has almost seen it all – including how the commitment to ‘baking people happy’ has brought joy to their customers in the good times, and softened the blow in the bad.
The first store opened in Puckle Street Moonee Ponds in 1901 and now Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses boasts a growing network of 87 stores across Victoria and remains family owned and operated, with the fifth generation of the Plarre family already working in the business.

To celebrate this key milestone, Ferguson Plarre is giving away more than 40,000 special birthday treats over the month of August – one of the largest retail food giveaways in Victorian history.
CEO of the fifth generation family owned and run Victorian business, Steve Plarre sees the giveaway as a way to not only thank generations of loyal Ferguson Plarre customers for their continued support but to celebrate this important milestone in the company’s history.
“120 years ago the first commitment to ‘baking people happy’ was made and it’s something we still live by today,” said Steve. “We can’t think of a better way to share this celebration with our customers than by sharing our special birthday treats – for free.”
