Introducing the Australian Business Licence and Information Service (ABLIS)
Registrations and licences are one of the most important parts of starting a new business. But the process of finding out which licences and registrations apply to your business can be daunting.
The Federal Government is in the process of rolling out the Australian Business Licence and Information Service (ABLIS) to help business operators and people considering starting a business apply for key business registrations using one online form. Although the service is currently in Beta phase, the registrations you apply for are real.
ABLIS is a national service delivered by a partnership of Australian, State and Territory Governments.
ABLIS can identify relevant state, territory, local and Australian government licences, permits, approvals, regulations and codes of practice, allowing you to obtain detailed information and manage compliance obligations.
With the ABLIS search functionality, users are provided with refined lists of government compliance and advisory information relevant to their business type, location and their answers to questions.
Currently the business registration service is available for new businesses starting as a sole trader, partnership, company, trust, joint venture or superannuation fund who can apply for a business name, Australian Business Number (ABN), company and tax registrations; and existing businesses with an ABN, who can apply for tax registrations or an AUSkey login.
The Government is also seeking feedback to improve the ABLIS functionality.
